Even though I never had the chance to see the Grateful Dead play...I still consider myself a DeadHead at heart. Who knows, in a past life I probably saw them play a hundred times! The sound on this tape is exceptional, very alive and dynamic. It makes sense how this became a hot tape...Thanks very much to Reinhart Holwein and the entire MOTB crew for the lightning in a bottle.

Subject: Cosmic Eugene show in very good aud sound
Menke got a really good mic recording for '78. I had the board of this back in the 70's and hell if I don't like this aud better. This Eugene show was one of the "hot tapes" of its time and gained that reputation for good reason. And being Eugene some speculated whether Ken Kesey was there and if he had any influence on the proceedings. Wicked "Other one". The band are all in the zone for much of this show, and if you can believe it Garcia plays "Close encounters of the third kind" theme into St. Stephen, now that's special.

This is a great audience recording. Put on a set of headphones and it almost sounds like you're there.
This is one of the all-time great Dead shows. As someone mentioned, The Other One is probably the classic post-72 version, and the St. Stephen is THE version, IMO.
But let's not overlook the NFA, which is a classic 1978 version. Also, A%A might not be the most popular Dead song, but this version smokes and is the perfect ending for this show.

This is one of the best shows of that era, of course the Terrapin to US Blues sequence is completely on fire, with maybe *the* classic post-72 Other One, and the Close Encounters solo is one of Garcia's finest moments ever.

I think this show is really good. The boys were on fire. Jerry is just cranking out one amazing solo after another. Take a listen to Tennessee Jed, The Music Never Stopped and of course the Close Encounter -> St Stephen. The recording has a little hiss here and there but, all in all, no complaints. Super happy to be able to pull this down! Cheers
